CLOAK is an American independent small press, established in 2022 by Mike Corrao. Our goal is to explore the expanded field of literature’s possibilities. In particular, we are focused on publishing innovative works interrogating themes of visibility and concealment, within both historical and contemporary scopes.
-
We are open year-round for submissions, with a particular interest in themes of visibility, concealment, memetic construction, surveillance, sousveillance, moods of terror, panopticism, stigmata, climate anxiety, anticapitalism, brackish water, xenoarchitecture, industrialized fear, beheading, crying for months, crying for free, lo-res footage of plane crashes, virulent hyperstition, burning houses, burning oil rigs, burning precincts, entombment, exit wounds, investing in bombs, bloodletting, unionization, demonology, distorted karaoke, subterranean leakage, underground fires, asbestos, nauseous hallways, self-reflection, vibe deception, immaculate conception, rogue signals, mounting tensions, and self-immolation.
Currently, we are only considering submissions for book and chapbook length works.
Submissions can be sent to cloak.publishing.project [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject line: SUBMISSION [Project Title].

We find the image of the cloak particularly compelling in regards to our publication's themes. It is an object that allows one to conceal their being and their actions, but that does not allow its wearer to render themselves entirely invisible. What is performed underneath the cloak is apparent in some sense, through agitations or displacements, but the details of these actions are blurred, the shape of the wearer is distorted. The observer may notice the russling of fabric, the moving of limbs, but they are unable to discern what is russling, what limbs are moving, what these movements may lead to.
The cloak engenders visibility on the terms of the observed. The wearer may use these agitations, displacements, movements underneath the fabric to plot and deceive. We want to publish writing that uses the inescapable nature of visibility to its advantage.
